João Henriques: Voice has been the centre of my life since childhood. However it was never in my plans to become a voice professional, with work ranging from theatre, opera and teaching – in the development of the voice’s artistic and communicational skills. In 2002, I started working at the São João National Theatre, in Porto, as its resident voice coach, being involved in more than twenty-five new productions, to date. At the same time, I began teaching at Escola Superior de Música, Artes e Espetáculo, in Porto, and, since March 2015, at Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema, in Lisbon. My latest directorial work was Bella Bartok’s opera ‘Bluebeard’s Castle’, with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, at the Barbican Hall, in London. My academic credits include a Master degree in Teaching (Singing); two post-graduate degrees: one in Opera Directing (ESMAE, Porto) and the other one in Musical Theatre (RAM, London), both with category of Distinction; the LRAM diploma as Voice Teacher; a BA in Singing and Piano (ESML, Lisbon); and a BA in Political Science (ULHT, Lisbon).
